Hello,

I have the default notification that is just a bunch of letters showing
up on the top left corner of my screen (see attached). What are some
suggestions for improving this?

Notifications aren't displayed by i3. You need to use a different
notification daemon. dunst is a pretty popular choice.

dunst is a pretty popular choice.
​Looks like you are already using dunst?

You can customise the look of that. By default in ~/.config/dunst/dunstrc

I really like dunst.
However, I recently switched to xfce-notifyd because I wanted to see
album covers. Dunst is more configurable, so I will switch back in the
next music listening lull.
